January on the beach! I could get used to this...

Well the last two days have been pretty exciting. I am so happy here with Tem and well you know.. sun. I have seen a lot of LA but there is still SOOO much I haven't seen. The city goes on forever!!On saturday Tem and I went hiking with Chuee. That 

was fabulous! I love the desert environment. The mountains are so amazing. We didn't do too much else on sat as Tem and I were both sick.

Yesterday we went to Venice beach and Malibu in the morning. Then in the afternoon I met up with my friend Ani who was in Japan with me and we walked all o

n the late afternoon I met up with Tem again and we went out to Manhattan beach to visit her friend Jimmy and his girlfriend Laura. Jimmy was sick so we didn't stay too long but we walked on the beach and I got some pictures of the sunset. We then stopped in at an Out

door supply store like MEC and I bought the last minute th

ings I will need for my trip- cable locks, a watch, sleep sheet, stuff like that.

Today we have a long list of "to do"s.

L.A. BABY!!

Well here I am in LA! I arrived yesterday afternoon and picked up my bags just as September pulled up. Fabulous timing if I do say so myself.

We sped off on the famous LA freeways, entered the downtown that was cloaked in smog, and then around to Los Feliz village that September calls home. Her place is fabulous. I will update with pictures later. She has made her place into a palace with the best bedroom I have ever seen!

 

After settling in we took off to a big event downtown. This event was for Alex Grey (www.alexgrey.com). He is an LSD/DMT/Ayahuasca inspired artist. I don't know what all of those do but he mentioned me.... often. His work has been made famous by the band Tool. He gave a lecture at the event which was... well okay. He wanted to talk about the relationship between humans and the cosmos in art over the centuries, which is a cool topic and if not exactly a new one, however his talk was a little disjointed. He was showing slides of ancient pieces of sculptures, paintings, and architecture but sometimes he was talking about how they related to the cosmos, sometimes he was just pointing out their similarity to our sexual organs, sometimes he was just seemed to be showing them because they were cool. I really don't think his audience noticed though. All in all it was a really cool event that drew that crazy LA scene. It was quite an eclectic group of people of all ages. The best part was that I would say over a quarter of the people looked like people the would provide really stimulating conversation. I loved that! Some people were, well to you the derogatory term "off the reservation", but there were only a couple of them. Feathers, fedoras, and glitter were the main accessories. I was definitely feeling the need for feathers. Some people were rocking out, or "trancing out" with all three. Turbans were also popular, as was body jewels, crystals, but stilettos and suits were also in the crowd, as were the british rocker chic look. It was a feast for the eyes! I tried to take in as much as I could. September and I didn't stay that long, well three hours, but the event was going all night. We then hit up Fred 62, and all night dinner and totally rock star hang out. After stuffing ourselves we came home and crashed. 

My internal clock woke my up at 5am. So I had a few hours sleep.

Today we are going hiking up to the Hollywood. Then shopping, then to a mud wrestling birthday party. I LOVE LA!!

Birthday Note

A quick note that I forgot to add in the last post.
My beautiful niece Piper has turned 5! Her birthday is the 25th of December so you will see her getting a chocolate cake in the Christmas pictures below.

Christmas in Canada

Well Christmas in London and at the cottage was wonderful. Despite the talk of not giving many gifts since we are blessed with wanting for nothing, Ashely and I woke on Christmas morning to discover a tree pregnant with presents. Stockings, as always, were the highlight. A few days after Christmas we went to the cottage and we were joined there by the whole Deathe clan. Well actually we were not whole, my niece Amber and my sister September could not make it. They were very much missed.

A Snow Day

Here are some pictures of the snow storm that hit Toronto last week. I did not take the storm alerts seriously, they were predicting 5cm, we got 25cm. The city shut down and I took Theo and Piper out to play. They played with the sledge and I built a snow fort. SO FUN!

Preparing for Christmas

So I was in London over my birthday weekend and I was "helping" my parents get ready for a big Christmas party they were putting on. The house is not fully decorated yet but here are some pictures as we start to get it ready. The tree is amazing! it is kind of a cross between a Dr. Seuss tree and the tree in the Nutcracker at the moment it grows crazy big and the nutcracker comes to life. The ceilings are bout 12 feet I think. We had to cut the tree down a bit to fit the star, and the star still touches the ceiling.
Just a quick note about the second picture. Well my dear sister Ashely gave my parents a framed photo of her and Geoff to try to balance out the Meredith pictures. Well what did my mum do? She went to the computer and printed off another picture of Meredith and put it in a frame. Meredith 3, Ashely 1. hehe lets keep up the good work Mer. Sorry Alec, you didn't make the cut at all.
Anyway, my childhood home was made for Christmas and I can't wait to get back there and to continue "helping" and relaxing in everything a Tokyo Christmas is NOT!
